PROFICIENCY SCORES

According to the latest information from the PUBLIC SCHOOL REVIEW proficiency scores in the Edmond Public Schools have gradually gone down since 2010. The largest drop was in 2016 which was pre-covid.

In addition close to 40% of Edmond students are considered not proficient in math and reading. One way to change this is to emphasize hiring and retaining the best teachers. This can be done by first empowering our teachers to teach. Also pay for the best teachers needs to increase. State
Superintendent Ryan Walters says many teachers move on to administrative positions because the pay is better. Since 2000 the number of school administrators in this country has grown by 87%. Is it possible there is administrative redundancy and some of the funds to pay for these positions could be used to increase teacher pay?

LIFE SKILL PREPARATION

Students in the Edmond Public Schools must be prepared to become productive citizens and be able to make a comfortable living. Students must be prepared for college if they desire. Some students may choose to go to a Career Technical School, others will go directly into the work force. They all need to be able to function in society with the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics. This again means we need to hire and retain the best teachers available to help train our children and grandchildren for life.

COLLABORATION

There must be collaboration among parents, teachers, and administrators in educating our students. “Education has become the battleground for the minds of our children and grandchildren.” Parents know what is best for their children. To do what is best for our children schools must be transparent so that parents know what their children are being taught and what books they are being assigned to read. Any topic discussed or taught in schools must be age appropriate as determined by the students’ parent.
